    Description

I just acquired 2 matched ceramic platters, each in identical brass frames, from the notable French Exposition of 1900 in Paris. I am offering them separately, with this example titled "Explanade Des Invalides, Exposition 1900.", as seen on the lower center of the plate.  I believe the ceramic is a hand colored over transfer faience, likely French considering its intended use.  The platters are actually entirely convex, so they will not rest flat on a surface, intended to be hung within the pressed brass decorative frames...adding a sense of importance by size and design.  The bowls are approx 11" D, and the width of the frames approx 18 3/4" D.  There is no damage to the ceramics, no chips or cracks, no scratches or crizzling. Both of the bowls have an impressed 6 or 9 on the backs, but no indication of maker or other info.  The colors are bright, the scenes distinct.  Both brass frames have a lion head at the top and scrolls and lattice elsewhere.  They both were clearly once hung from a loop at the back top, but in addition to secure them to the wall a nail sized hole was hammered into the bottom center edge, obviously to keep them secure and not endangered by a bump.  These holes are small but slightly distorted the surface around them...see the photos. The weight of each bowl within frame is approx 2 3/4 pounds.  Check out my OTHER ITEMS FOR MATCHING MATE, and OTHER ITEMS.
